Options

• limit – number of images to display (6 by default)
• id – you can specify an ID for the unordered list of images
• link – one or more values that determine the URL of where a clicked image takes the user to

Possible values for link option are:

• post_parent – URL of the post to which the image is attached (it works only if image is actually attached, doh)
• attachment – attachment page URL (works only if page is attached to a post)
• full – full-size image URL
• thickbox, fancybox, lightbox or shadowbox – media viewer dependent link
• empty value means no link

You can mix these values up too. For example, you can use a sequence like this: post_parent, thickbox. If an image is attached to some post it uses a link to this post, otherwise it uses a Thickbox-dependent link.

• echo – 0 or 1, automatically outputs generated HTML; useful when applying a function inside PHP templates

WP-MalWatch is a WordPress security plugin scanner designed to help alert you when hackers have been at work inside your blog.

When hackers infiltrate a blog, the first thing they do is plant hidden files, disguised .PHP, and malicious .HTACCESS files in various directores. Their goal is to litter your WordPress installation and theme with links to their sites.

WP-MalWatch performs a security scan of your WordPress installation nightly looking for evidence of foul play and if WP-MalWatch finds it, a dashboard widget will tell you were you should take a closer look. WP-MalWatch's detailed report also provides you a very easy interface for looking at the contents of these files right from within WordPress so you don't have to get into messy FTP clients and editors looking at potential problems.

Version 2.1.2 of WP-MalWatch is based on 2.0.2 which was a complete rewrite of the original WP-MalWatch plugin and provides efficient malware scanning. Version 2.1.2 looks for hidden files, HTACCESS files, configurable file patterns, keywords in theme files, encode 64 calls in key WordPress files, and .PHP files in the uploads directory.

Does WP-MalWatch protect your blog?

NO! WP-MalWatch is a scanning plugin that allows a blogger to easily identify the presence of files in a blog installation and provides a simple viewer for examining them.

If WP-MalWatch finds files in my blog, does it mean I have a problem?

Not necessarily but it does mean you need to take a look at them. The plugin has several links to explanations of what WP-MalWatch is looking for. Any file that WP-MalWatch reports, you should look at and be comfortable that it is there for a purpose.

Why PHP files in the uploads directory? Because they shouldn't be there and are clear evidence of foul play.

What are configurable file patterns?

Hackers love to drop multiple extension files into a blog hoping that you won't notice them. The default setting for WP-MalWatch are the file extension patterns for the somewhat clever "pharma attack". These include patterns like *.old.php and *.bak.php. You can configure these for whatever you are looking for.

Why .HTACCESS files? .HTACCESS files are specific for UNIX and you will generally have one at the root of your website. WordPress actually uses this file for things like Permalinks. Hackers love to drop .HTACCESS files into other parts of your WordPress installation to do malicious things such as implement 301 redirects to trick users or even search engines. Still, some plugins use .HTACCESS files for their functionality. That doesn't mean that a hacker can't get into those. If you have more than one .HTACCESS file in your installation, you'll want to take a look at it and ensure that there are no redirects to sites you aren't aware of.

Will WP-MalWatch scans impact the performance of my blog?

We tested WP-MalWatch on one of our blogs while there were over 2,000 active users online. We were impressed with its performance and the fact that it didn't impact server performance. If you see something different with your hosting, report it to us but we can assure you we paid close attention to the efficiency of scanning in this plugin.

If My Blog Is Clean, Should I leave WP-MalWatch installed?

YES! It only runs once per night and is very efficient. Leave this plugin installed. You can turn modules on/off as well.

The WordpreSMS plugin allows you to use Wordpress as a mobile SMS content management system. You can set up a Keyword on a given Short Code. This plugin allows the author to exclude certain posts from archive, tag, search and home page listings. Authors can also exclude posts to appear ONLY to logged in users, thereby forcing membership. The exclusion check boxes appear directly on the edit post page, no need to access the program separately from the admin panel. This is what makes the plugin better than some of the other excluder plugins out there.

The editing checkboxes on the post edit screen are: Disable listing on home page; Disable on tag listing; Disable listing in archives; Disable listing in search; Disable listing for users not Logged In; Disable but show available if Logged In.

The last two options allow hidden content to exist in the system, where it will be displayed if the user is logged in. On these posts that are excluded from listing or display, the author can specify: (a.) Disable from listing if not logged in, or, (b.) Disable from listing if not logged in but let browser know it is there if they do log in.

In situation a, the post is not displayed (direct url will show a 404), and it is not listed in the menus, (unless you have a different plugin/template scheme that will override wp filters).

In situation b, the post will be replaced with a customized message (admin->tools) like 'Sorry, this content is available to logged in users only'. The links to the protected content will be visible.

This plugin is designed to be customized by the end user. The code is simple and heavily documented, and uses only WordPress functions. You should be using WP version 2.7 or greater for this plugin to work properly.

If a comment is held for moderation an email message is sent to the comment author with a link to verify the comment author's email address. When the comment author clicks on that link the comment gets approved immediately. This makes discussions more lively as users don't have to wait for the blog admin to approve the comment.

Blog owners may also choose to hold the comments in the moderation queue even after successful verification. The verification status is shown in the comment lists in the admin.

If an author has a previously approved comment and his comments gets approved automatically according to the 'comment_whitelist' option in WordPress no email is sent.

Have you ever wanted to give away vouchers, tickets, coupons or tokens on your website? If so this plugin is for you. List Category Posts allows you to list posts from a category into a post/page using the [catlist] shortcode.

The shortcode accepts a category name or id, the order in which you want the posts to display, and the number of posts to display. You can also display the post author, date, excerpt, custom field values, even the content! The [catlist] shortcode can be used as many times as needed with different arguments on each post/page.

New feature: The different elements to display con now be styled with CSS. you can define an HTML tag to wrap the element with, and a CSS class for this tag. Check Other Notes for usage.

Great to use WordPress as a CMS, and create pages with several categories posts.

It includes a widget which works pretty much the same as the plugin. Just add as many widgets as you want, and select all the available options from the Appearence > Widgets page.

Since version 0.18, this plugins does not work on servers with PHP 4. If you're still using PHP 4 on your webhost, you should consider upgrading to PHP 5. WordPress 3.1 will be the last version to support PHP 4, from 3.2 and forward, only PHP 5 will be supported. You can still download an older version of the plugin if you're using PHP 4.

This plugin adds a small form to every comment on your blog. The form is only added for admins and allows you to move comments to a different page and to fix comment threading.

This plugin is not designed for mass-moving of comments, rather for moving single comments from time to time. There are other plugins better suited for moving many comments at once.

The forms will be visible on every comment on your post/page, but not in the admin section. I found this more convenient than the existing solutions. There's also a widget included that allows you to turn the forms on and off in case you don't need them all the time.

My plugins

Better tag cloud: I was pretty unhappy with the default WordPress tag cloud widget. This one is more powerful and offers a list HTML markup that is consistent with most other widgets.

Theme switch: I like to tweak my main theme that I use on a variety of blogs. If you have ever done this you know how annoying it can be to break things for visitors of your blog. This plugin allows you to use a different theme than the one used for your visitors when you are logged in.

With Time Release, you set your blog to publish a post after some period of inactivity. You edit and create Time Release posts in the usual way, but you mark it as “Time Release”. After a few days, if you haven’t posted any new stories, then the Time Release posts will start to be published.

Subscribe2 provides a comprehensive subscription management and email notification system for WordPress blogs that sends email notifications to a list of subscribers when you publish new content to your blog.

Email Notifications can be sent on a per-post basis or periodically in a Digest email. Additionally, certain categories can be excluded from inclusion in the notification and posts can be excluded on an individual basis by setting a custom field.

Basic Usage

Once installed, the plugin will begin parsing your posts, bookmarks (AKA blogroll) and other content and looking for links. Depending on the size of your site this can take from a few minutes up to an hour or more. When parsing is complete, the plugin will start checking each link to see if it works. Again, how long this takes depends on how big your site is and how many links there are. You can monitor the progress and tweak various link checking options in Settings -> Link Checker.

The broken links, if any are found, will show up in a new tab of the WP admin panel - Tools -> Broken Links. A notification will also appear in the "Broken Link Checker" widget on the Dashboard. To save display space, you can keep the widget closed and configure it to expand automatically when problematic links are detected. E-mail notifications need to be enabled separately (in Settings -> Link Checker).

The "Broken Links" tab will by default display a list of broken links that have been detected so far. However, you can use the links on that page to view redirects or see a listing of all links - working or not - instead. You can also create new link filters by performing a search and clicking the "Create Custom Filter" button. For example, this can be used to create a filter that only shows comment links.

There are several actions associated with each link. They show up when you move your mouse over to one of the links listed the aforementioned tab -

• "Edit URL" lets you change the URL of that link. If the link is present in more than one place (e.g. both in a post and in the blogroll), all occurrences of that URL will be changed.
• "Unlink" removes the link but leaves the link text intact.
• "Not broken" lets you manually mark a "broken" link as working. This is useful if you know it was incorrectly detected as broken due to a network glitch or a bug. The marked link will still be checked periodically, but the plugin won't consider it broken unless it gets a new result.

You can also click on the contents of the "Status" or "Link Text" columns to get more info about the status of each link.

I didn't find any gallery which fulfilled my expectations. I don't need private pictures from flickr to be included to my block, as once included they are not private anymore. That's why I wanted to use the standard functionality of flickr to embed slideshows.

You can change the border, scrolling (yes/no), and width and height of the linked iframe under settings. I haven't found yet any parameter or hint to change the black background color. Please post me in case you have an advice and I'll change the coding accordingly. I might need some time to do so, as maintaing this plugin is a hobby only. The influence on the standard functionality of the flickr API is very limited. Adapting width and height of the iframe might result in artefacts which can't be influenced by any wrapper coding out of wordpress.

FeedWordPress is an Atom/RSS aggregator for WordPress.
